What is chives and what does it taste like?

Chives is a plant from the garlic family and is sometimes called pipe grass because of its shape. The herb finds its origin in Europe and North Asia. The onion, leek and garlic are closely related to it. In terms of taste, it strongly resembles onion, but the taste of chive roles is a lot more refined and aromatic. The soft taste of chive roles is easily lost when heated. So take this into account during frying or baking. Do not boil it and add the herb to your dish as late as possible. By the way, chive roles retain their smell and taste longer than finely ground chives.

Chive roles are healthy

Chive roles are not only very tasty, they are also healthy. The herb has barely lost any nutritional value during the drying process. chive roles are therefore still rich in vitamins A and C and contain various minerals. Antioxidants and folic acid are also well represented in the herb. In addition, it promotes digestion, has a diuretic effect and lowers blood pressure. They look like green medicines, as it were. An additional advantage is that they taste and smell a lot less intense than garlic, which, by its very nature, is also known as an antioxidant.
