What are pea soup vegetables?

The pea soup vegetables that you can buy online from us consist of leek, celeriac, carrots and celery. To prepare a litre of hearty, authentic Dutch soup you need about four hundred grams of dried pea soup vegetables. You can buy them here in packs of 1.2 or 5 kilos. By the way, pea soup is also called 'snert.' in Dutch. However, the two are not quite the same. 'Snert' is pea soup that was prepared a day ago (and has therefore become more flavoursome). Additionally, it contains pork and bacon.

Celeriac, the indispensable factor

Although the composition of dried pea soup vegetables can often differ, there is one vegetable always present: celeriac. You can therefore call it indispensable in Dutch pea soup. Celeriac is relatively little used and therefore falls under the 'forgotten vegetables'. Vegetables that we actually never consider using in the modern kitchen. Although we do not often use this mildly spicy, sweet vegetable, you will often find it in pea soup. It is full of dietary fibre and low in calories. It can be called the main protagonist among pea soup vegetables.
