Venda: colour retainer and Listeria growth inhibitor


Venda is an additive with a double function. Not only does it ensure colour retention and therefore an enhanced (fresh) appearance of meat, minced meat and poultry, it also inhibits the growth of Listeria bacteria. Venda is able to do this without changing the taste of the product. The additive consists of various food acids but is almost tasteless if you stick to the quantity of recommended use. Per kilogram you use 4.5 to 5 grams of Venda. You can order this additive online from Natural Spices in packs of 850 grams, 2 kilos or 8 kilos.



What exactly is Listeria?


Listeria is a bacterium that can cause a food infection. Risk products include pre-packed fish, raw animal products and raw milk cheese. Listeria is most commonly found in foods of animal origin. Specifically in the products that are kept refrigerated for a long time and then eaten unheated. Although contamination of plant products is rare, it cannot be ruled out. Listeria is a persistent bacterium that can survive well in various environments. In healthy people, the symptoms of disease are limited to flu-like symptoms. For at-risk groups such as pregnant women and the elderly, the bacterium can have more serious consequences. Only products that are properly heated will not contain Listeria. The bacteria will not survive temperatures of 70 degrees or higher.

Venda can be used in meat, minced meat and poultry. The use of Venda does not, of course, mean that the expiry date can be postponed indefinitely. The additive gives you greater certainty that your food will be free of Listeria bacteria until the expiry date. If necessary, you could use them a little longer than the best before date, but you will always have to take the test yourself.
