For this reason sea salt tastes different to kitchen salt (which is composed mainly of sodium chloride). Sea salt is fine 2 to 4 mm.

The use of sea salt has some advantages compared to the use of common kitchen salt. For example, it is a pure substance that has not been chemically purified, it has a refined taste and, thanks to its appearance and composition, it also gives a special taste experience. The difference between sea salt and common (kitchen) salt


One of the biggest differences between sea salt and kitchen salt is the way it is extracted. Salt from the sea is a more ecologically sound alternative for you as a user because it is obtained from the evaporation of seawater with the help of sun and wind. This is therefore an inexhaustible source. In order to obtain salt from the sea, pits are dug into which seawater flows. This then evaporates, after which the salt concentration rises more and more, until it can be extracted. For classic kitchen salt, the salt is extracted from the ground. This is heated and crystallised, but it is first chemically purified. The two types of salt differ in taste due to the fact that the salt extracted from the sea has several salts. These are filtered out during the processing of salt extracted from the ground. Salt extracted from the sea therefore has a more nuanced flavour.



Is sea salt healthier than cooking salt?


The taste profile of sea salt may be more nuanced and may be extracted in a more responsible way, but that does not make it healthier than cooking salt. Sea salt also contains mainly sodium chloride. You will notice the different composition in your mouth, but it has little to do with more or less healthy. The question also regularly arises as to how Himalayan salt compares to the other types. This salt, too, consists of several minerals and has an nice taste profile, but this does not make it any healthier than the ordinary salt.
