The history of the 'frikandel'


The 'frikandel' was developed just after the Second World War, in the fifties. At the time, the Commodities Act amended the regulations governing meatballs. However, a butcher from Dordrecht decided to change not the recipe, but the shape of this snack. This gave rise to the meatball in sausage form, the 'frikandel'. A few years later they decided to grind the meat even finer, just like the Americans did. This is how the 'frikandel' of today came into being. It is now a top favourite among snacks in the Netherlands and Belgium. A 'frikandel' is made from a mix of different types of meat and f'rikandel' mix.
