The tastiest fried potatoes from the air fryer: this is how they become golden brown and crispy

The tastiest fried potatoes from the airfryer

Fried potatoes from the airfryer are, as far as I'm concerned, one of the easiest side dishes you can make. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and are on the table within half an hour. You also need much less oil than when frying them in a pan.

Still, it doesn't always work out to get that golden-brown, crunchy potato. With a few simple tips you can make perfect fried potatoes from the airfryer every time. Then you only have to choose which spice variation you'll make today.

Which potatoes should you use?

Not every potato gives the same result.

For fried potatoes from the airfryer these types work best:

• Waxier potatoes
• Slightly waxy baby potatoes
• Roseval potatoes
• Baby potatoes

These stay nice and firm and get a crispy exterior without falling apart.

Do you need to parboil the potatoes?

You don't have to.

Raw potatoes cook perfectly well in the airfryer. Cut them into equal cubes or wedges so everything cooks at the same time.

Do you have leftover cooked potatoes? You can also use those excellent. They often become even crispier.

How to make potatoes extra crispy

These tips really make a difference.

1. Pat the potatoes dry

Moisture is the biggest enemy of a crispy crust.

2. Use a little oil

One tablespoon of olive oil for about 500 grams of potatoes is sufficient.

3. Don't fill the basket too full

The hot air needs to be able to circulate well everywhere.

4. Shake halfway through

This ensures all sides brown evenly.

5. Bake at a high temperature

200 °C usually gives the best result.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do you need to peel the potatoes?

No. With the skin on they actually become extra crispy. Just wash them well.

2. Which oil is best to use?

Olive oil or sunflower oil are both suitable. Use no more than about one tablespoon per 500 grams of potatoes.

3. Can you use frozen potato cubes?

Yes. Follow the instructions on the packaging. Usually they are ready a bit faster than fresh potatoes.

4. Why do my potatoes become limp?

Often the airfryer is too full or the potatoes are still too moist. Pat them dry well and rather bake in two batches.

5. Can you store them?

Yes. Store them for up to two days in the fridge and reheat them for 4 to 6 minutes in the airfryer at 180 °C.
