A spicy comfort dish for breakfast, lunch or brunch
Shakshuka is one of those dishes that always works. Warm, spicy, full of flavor and surprisingly simple. Making it in the airfryer saves you time and gives you a nicely concentrated sauce in which the eggs cook perfectly. With spicy chorizo and our chorizo spices, you can put a dish on the table in no time that is just as suitable for an elaborate brunch as for a weekday lunch.
Why shakshuka from the airfryer?
The airfryer provides even heat distribution, allowing the tomato sauce to gently reduce without burning. The chorizo releases its spicy fats into the sauce, while the eggs cook exactly how you want them: soft and runny, or a bit firmer.
Recipe: Spicy Chorizo Shakshuka from the Airfryer

Ingredients (2–3 people)
-
150 g chorizo, sliced or cut into half moons
-
1 red bell pepper, sliced
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1 clove garlic, minced
-
1 can diced tomatoes (400 g)
-
1½–2 tsp chorizo spices
-
4–6 eggs
-
Olive oil
-
Salt (to taste)
-
Optional: fresh parsley or cilantro, bread or pita to serve
Method
-
Make the base
In a heatproof dish, mix the chorizo, pepper, onion and garlic with a splash of olive oil. Place in the airfryer at 180 °C for 5 minutes so the chorizo browns slightly and releases its aroma. -
Add the sauce
Add the diced tomatoes and the chorizo spices . Stir well and place back in the airfryer at 180 °C for 8–10 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly. -
Poach the eggs
Make wells in the sauce and crack the eggs into them. Return the dish to the airfryer and bake for 5–7 minutes, depending on how runny you want the yolks. -
Serve
Finish with fresh herbs and serve immediately with crusty bread or pita.
Tips for the best result
-
Use a shallow dish: this allows the sauce to cook evenly and the eggs to be well distributed.
-
Not too much liquid: let the sauce reduce a bit before you add the eggs.
-
Timing the eggs: check halfway through; every airfryer is different.
-
Extra kick: add a pinch of chili flakes in addition to the chorizo spices.
-
Meal prep-proof: make the sauce ahead of time and add the eggs only when reheating.
Which spices make this shakshuka so flavorful?
